This museum is the only of its kind dedicated to Krishna as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It boasts of his stories, revelations, and relics in the form of illustrations, paintings, artifacts, etc.

Beautiful Art and Designing in Shri Krishna Museum Kurukshetra

This popular museum of Kurukshetra was set up in the year 1987 by Kurukshetra Development Board to narrate and present the rich history of this city to people around the world. This museum has two blocks which are divided into six galleries and they have 3 galleries each. First block of Krishna Museum was inaugurated in July 1991 by then Honorable Indian President, Shri R Venkataraman. The museum was added with another block in the year 1995. The third block was inaugurated by Ex Honorable President Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. This block has a high tech Multimedia Mahabharata and Gita Gallery.

Krishna Museum houses some of the rarest artifacts related to the history of this land. It is based on the theme of Shri Krishna, Mahabharata, and Kurukshetra.

These themes are thoughtfully illustrated in the galleries of museum. Many antiquities related to these events and themes are displayed here. These include pottery, miniature paintings, sculptures, terra cotta items, palm leaf etchings, ivory castings, tableaux, bronze castings, etc.

Lord Krishna has been depicted as the war hero, astute philosopher, an incarnation, godhead, benevolent lover, and a statesman par excellence. The museum has fine collection of Madhubani, Kangra, and Pattachitra folk styles of paintings displayed to allure the visitors.

The newly added third block of this museum explains the values and beliefs of great personalities like Lord Krishna, Vidur, Bhishma, and many other prophets who touched this holy land of Kurukshetra.

This multimedia show is quite popular among the locals and tourists alike. They enjoy it thoroughly while cruising past the significant events of history represented in an effective manner. This gallery was started by Haryana Tourism with collaboration of Ministry of Tourism, India. This entire work was undertaken in the project titled ‘Integrated Development of Panipat Kurukshetra Pinjore Circuit.’

Entry Fees:

To enjoy the historical, mythological, and religious values of Kurukshetra, very minimal entry fees are charged at Krishna Museum. Structure of entry fees:
  • Children aged below 10 years: Rs. 10
  • Children aged above 10 years: Rs. 30
  • Adults: Rs. 30
  • School and College groups: Rs. 10 (But it is necessary to carry the letter head of institution along).

Timings:

  • The Museum remains closed on Monday.
  • From Tuesday to Sunday, it opens for public from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
